About the festival

Every year during week 33, central Stockholm comes alive with concerts, dance, performing arts, film, art, literature and activities for all ages. For five days, the city's streets, squares and parks are transformed into festival areas with free admission and hundreds of programme events.

International guest performances, local cultural organisations, established artists and new voices all come together here. Whether you’re coming for a concert, a dance workshop, an outdoor film screening or simply to experience the city in a different way, there’s always something to discover.

History

The Stockholm Culture Festival was first held in 2005. It followed in the footsteps of the Stockholm Water Festival of the 1990s, continuing the tradition of a city-wide festival in central Stockholm.

Since then, the festival has grown into one of the city’s largest annual cultural events. With the exception of the pandemic years 2020 and 2021, it has taken place every year.

The City of Stockholm has a long tradition of supporting youth culture. Through initiatives such as Ung08 and later We Are Sthlm, generations of young people have been given space to meet, create and express themselves. Today, UNG is an integral part of the Stockholm Culture Festival, contributing to a programme that reflects a wide range of perspectives and cultural expressions.
